Overseas work

“...chambers competes with any set for the most complex offshore disputes” Legal 500

Our work is by no means limited to the Courts of England and Wales and domestic tribunals. A very significant proportion of our work originates overseas: we have particularly close relationships with professional clients in the Channel Islands and the Caribbean, but members also advise and appear in proceedings in the European Courts as well as in (amongst others) Anguilla, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Ireland, Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Middle East, New South Wales, Norway, Panama, Russia, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States of America.

In consequence, many members of Serle Court are very experienced in working closely with lawyers from different jurisdictions, and, when appropriate, will happily travel abroad to see clients. We can adopt a hands-on approach to foreign litigation either on the ground or from London, as the case requires.

Nine members of Serle Court are CEDR accredited mediators and are available to mediate disputes relating to or taking place in foreign jurisdictions – most now have direct experience of doing so. In addition, members of Chambers are regularly appointed as examiners for the purpose of taking evidence for use in foreign proceedings. Finally, we are proud that Howard Page QC sits regularly as a Commissioner of the Royal Court of Jersey and Patrick Talbot QC as a Lieutenant Bailiff of the Royal Court of Guernsey.

As always, if you would like further information, please feel free to call or email one of our Senior Clerks.
