Professor Michael Palmer is one of Europe’s leading experts on Chinese law. Operating in both Mandarin and Cantonese, he has advised on questions of Chinese Law for the Attorney-General of Hong Kong, the European Commission, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Council. Recent cases have involved issues in legal relations between Hong Kong and mainland China, and in civil and commercial law in both China and Hong Kong.
Michael Palmer is a senior Professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where he is also Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Law and Social Science, and Chair of the Centre of East Asian Law. Professor Palmer has been extensively involved for nearly twenty years in special training programmes in English and European law for young Chinese legal professionals – lawyers in private practice and in government service, judges, legislators and procurators.
