Richard Southwell QC was called to the Bar in 1959 specialising in Commercial law. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1977 and later appointed treasurer for the Inner Temple in 2002.
Past Chairman of Professional Standards Committee, Bar Council 1988-90 (in charge of education, training, standards, entry and discipline of the practising Bar): Member to 1992.
Past Chairman of Legal Services Committee, Bar Council 1990-91 (in charge principally of presentation of the Bar’s case in relation to the Green Papers and the Courts and Legal Services Bill and subsequently Act of 1990. Wrote two books for the Bar Council in this capacity.
