BILA Book Prize for Lloyd’s: Law and Practice

The British Insurance Law Association Prize for 2014 has been awarded to Julian Burling for Lloyd’s: Law and Practice (Informa Law from Routledge, 2013). The prize is awarded annually by the British Insurance Law Association Charitable Trust to the author(s) of a published work constituting in the opinion of the Trustees the most notable contribution to literature in the field of law as it affects insurance. The Chair of the Charitable Trust, Alison Green, presenting the prize, said “In a very strong year for insurance law books, the trustees had found the winning work to be an authoritative and invaluable reference book on Lloyd’s from an author who knew his subject so well, having been an in-house lawyer there for many years, including 15 years as Counsel to Lloyd’s. I wished there had been such a book to guide me through the maze of Lloyd’s, its practices and by-laws when I was first instructed as a barrister in cases involving Lloyd’s underwriters and Lloyd’s brokers.”

Julian has also previously been awarded the BILA Book Prize (2013) for the Research Handbook on International Insurance Law and Regulation (Edward Elgar Publishing Limited, 2012).
