Property in Practice 001: ‘Raising the roof: property considerations in rooftop developments’

Location: Serle Court, 6 New Square, Lincoln’s Inn, London, WC2A 3QS

Michael Walsh will present our first briefing in our Property in Practice series over breakfast, 'Raising the roof: property considerations for rooftop developments' on Thursday, 29th June. Registration and breakfast will take place from 08.30 am, followed by the briefing from Michael at 09.15 am.

With a housing shortage across the UK and high property prices, many owners and developers are looking skywards by adding further floors to their existing buildings. However, such developments are not without their complications. In the first of our series of Property in Practice events, Michael will examine the problems facing developers and owners of buildings.

This briefing will look at:

  • The impact of the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Developing a strategy that anticipates problems before they arise
  • Interim remedies and how to deploy them
  • Leasehold covenants preventing development
  • Claims of nuisance and derogation from grant
  • Right to Manage companies and how they impact on development
  • The rights of first refusal under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987
