Exporting Culture & Importing Risk

We are excited to announce our 2nd annual Art & Cultural Property Seminar, ‘Exporting Culture and Importing Risk’. The event will take place on Thursday 25 June, arrival from 5:30 PM, for a 6:00 PM start at The Museum of the Order of St John. The seminar sessions will be followed by a drinks reception from 7:30 PM.

Join us for an engaging evening of insightful discussions led by our expert art law barristers on the following themes:

“Exporting Culture”

Andrew Bruce, Harry Martin, Anneliese Mondschein and Suzanne Ter-Minassian will consider the difficult legal issues which can arise when exporting art and cultural objects. How can an export ban based on the Waverley criteria be challenged, and what legal issues can arise when an owner takes up an institution’s offer to purchase? What disputes are likely to arise as a result of the EU regulations on the import of cultural goods?

“Importing Risk”

Michael Edenborough KC, Stephanie Wickenden, Stefano Theodoli-Braschi and Nia Moseley-Roberts will consider the multifaceted risk involved in international loans and imports of artistic works and cultural objects. The discussion will span cross-border copyright infringement risks such as long-arm jurisdiction for foreign infringements, joint and secondary liability and moral rights, as well as cultural misappropriation and indemnities.

Due to limited capacity, the event is by invitation only. To express your interest in attending, please reach out to our Business Development Team via email events@serlecourt.co.uk.
