Serle Court mourns the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Members of Serle Court join their colleagues across the legal profession to mourn the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Writing in relation to appointments made by Queen Victoria in 1898, the Privy Council described the role of Queen’s Counsel as being “in the nature of an office under the Crown”, and “also in the nature of an honour or dignity to this extent, that it is a mark of recognition by the Sovereign of the professional eminence of the counsel upon whom it is conferred”.
The twenty-seven members of Serle Court who became King’s Counsel in such sad circumstances on 8 September 2022 are proud to have been so recognised by the late Queen Elizabeth II, whose service in the public life of our nation was nonpareil.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family at this very sad time.
