Serle Court welcomes leading commercial barrister

Serle Court is delighted to welcome Stephen Doherty to Chambers.

Stephen was called to the Bar in 2013 and has a strong commercial disputes practice, with particular expertise in international arbitration and litigation in the Middle East. Stephen is an experienced advocate and regularly appears in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Courts, and in arbitrations under a number of institutional rules, including the ICC, DIAC, LCIA and ADCCAC.

Stephen is ranked as a leading junior by the Legal 500 in four practice areas (Commercial Litigation (Middle East), Commercial Litigation (London), Banking & Finance, and Construction (Middle East)), and by Chambers & Partners in two practice areas (Dispute Resolution, International Arbitration). The directories say that “Stephen’s advocacy is clear and structured”, “He is not easily flustered, even when confronted with questions from left field”,  “He is very knowledgeable about the law of the DIFC and its history”, and “His legal drafting on technical points of law is clear and persuasive and his advocacy is calm, forceful and authoritative.

Stephen commented, “I am delighted to be joining Serle Court, and working alongside the exceptional barristers chambers has to offer, many of whom I have already encountered as opposing counsel. Serle Court is already long established as a top commercial set, with a strong presence in the Middle East, and I hope to be able to contribute to its success in the future."

Chambers Director, Kathryn Purkis says, “Stephen has an exceptional following in the DIFC and ADGM courts and is considered the go-to junior counsel for Middle East work more widely. As such, we have known him well for some time already! We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming him to Serle Court, knowing he will further consolidate our reputation as a leading set in the jurisdiction.”
