The 16th Edition of “Butterworths Intellectual Property Law Handbook” has now been published

We are delighted that the 16th Edition of "Butterworths Intellectual Property Law Handbook" has now been published. Michael Edenborough KC has been the consultant editor of this work since, and including, the 13th edition.

The new edition has been fully revised and updated to reflect recent key developments in this area. Key updates include:

  • Inclusion of the draft EU Directive and Regulation to govern the potential liabilities that flow from the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in all aspects of commerce;
  • Continuing impact of Brexit addressed, notably with addition of the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023 to the EU Exit Related Legislation section;
  • Patents section expanded to include all the major texts required to operate within the new United Patents Court;
  • The Trade Marks (Amendment) Regulations 2022 No. 1303 (amends TMA 1994)

Michael’s practice involves advice and advocacy on infringement and validity issues concerning all types of IPRs. As such, he deals with declarations of invalidity, revocation, rectification and cancellation of registered intellectual property rights such as trade marks, registered designs and patents. He is often instructed in cases involving the main unregistered IPRs such as goodwill, copyright, designs and confidential information, and also the more unusual rights such as plant varieties, moral rights, database rights and geographical indications.
