Serle Court welcomes highly-regarded property barrister Hugh Rowan

Serle Court is delighted to welcome Hugh Rowan to Chambers.

Hugh Rowan was called to the Bar in 2021 and has already developed a very strong commercial chancery practice specialising in property law. Hugh focusses on real property, commercial and residential landlord and tenant law, enfranchisement and right to manage, and commercial and company disputes.

A popular and busy junior, Hugh has a formidable track record. In the past two years alone he has appeared five times in the Court of Appeal, in a range of disputes concerning: the retrospective application of Building Safety Act; the scope of damages recoverable for disrepair; the construction of shareholders’ agreements; Housing Act “reasonable excuse” defences; and the court’s jurisdiction in bankruptcy proceedings over persons based abroad.

Hugh commented, “I am delighted to be joining Serle Court for the next stage of my career. I have been fortunate to benefit from tremendous support and experience so far, and I am excited to build on that foundation in the years ahead. I’ve long admired Serle Court’s strength across chancery and commercial work and the exceptional quality of advocacy across the set. I’m thrilled to contribute and to build my practice among such outstanding colleagues.”

Chambers Director, Kathryn Purkis says, “Chambers has set out to recruit excellent property practitioners to consolidate our growing property offering, and Hugh fits this bill perfectly. We are absolutely delighted to welcome him to Chambers and look forward to seeing him thrive here.”
