A-level and GCSE exam results: What are the routes to challenge?

Since the U-turn over the algorithm-based results for this summer’s exams, members of chambers are facing a number of requests for advice including from A-level students who have made the offer grade based on their teacher predictions only to find that they are being asked to defer admission to their first choice university.

Quoted in The Telegraph, Professor Suzanne Rab is invited by the Education Editor to provide her legal insight in relation to the concerns of students and also Universities across the UK having to house potentially thousands more students.  To read the article please redirect to The Telegraph’s website here.

Suzanne’s regulatory, public law and commercial expertise means that she is currently offering advice to students, schools and institutions including universities on the potential appeal routes and legal challenges in relation to decisions that have been made over exam results.  Particular issues relate to university candidates who are being asked to defer places to 2021 despite meeting the grade offers based on the results predicted by their assessment centre.  Suzanne handles the full range of education law cases, both public law and private law, advising students, academic staff, schools and governing bodies, universities, colleges, examining bodies and local authorities.

Please feel free to contact our clerks if you are a student, school, educational institution or university and are concerned about any of these issues.
