Rupert Reed QC and Simon Hattan appear in two cases featured in the Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2022

Two Serle Court members, Rupert Reed QC and Simon Hattan  appear in cases mentioned in the Lawyer's Top 20 Cases of 2022, published on 10th January 2022.  Those cases are as follows;

Aurium Real Estate London Ultra Prime v Mishcon de Reya

Rupert Reed QC leads Michael Walsh in acting on negligence claims against Mishcon de Reya for property investors who lost £48 million of their investment in a £500 million super-prime residential development in Bayswater.

Rupert is instructed by Aymen Khoury and his team at Field Fisher.  A three-week trial will take place from 14 March 2022.

Allianz Global Investors and others v RSA Group Insurance

Simon Hattan continues to act for RSA plc in defence of claims brought by a group of over 50 institutional claimants under s.90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.  The claimants allege that Annual Reports and other published financial information contained untrue or misleading statements, in particular about accounting irregularities in the company’s Irish subsidiary, and that as a result they suffered significant losses on their holdings of RSA shares.  The claim, which has given rise to a number of interlocutory decisions and will be the subject of an eight week trial commencing on 10th October 2022, is set to be the first determined under s.90A and is likely to establish important precedents for the proper application of the statutory provision.

Simon is instructed by Herbert Smith Freehills' Partner, Simon Clarke.
