#SerleShare – World Intellectual Property Day 2021
#SerleShare – World Intellectual Property Day 2021 shines a light on the critical role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and how they can use Intellectual Property rights to build a stronger and more competitive business.
World IP Day came into force on 26th April 2000, the day on which the WIPO Convent came into force in 1970. Since then, this day has offered a unique opportunity each year to join with others around the world to consider how IP contributes to flourishing the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world.
To celebrate, Serle Court's Michael Edenborough QC has written a special edition SerleShare titled "Are IPR's good for the World?" The article explains that to the modern person, IP rights are all-pervading, especially in the current pandemic, from patents for vaccines, via trade marks to distinguish all luxuries that have been consumed, and to copyright protecting all the miniseries that have been metaphorically consumed. However, to the modern IP lawyer, those three rights are only a selection of the vast armada of potential rights that may arise.
