Anneliese Mondschein is developing a broad commercial and chancery practice in line with Chambers’ profile. She has a particular interest in matters involving trusts, private clients, contracts and commercial arrangements, intellectual property, and art and cultural property.
Anneliese is identified as a ‘Rising Star’ in the Legal 500.
Since joining Chambers in 2024 upon the successful completion of her pupillage, Anneliese has worked (both led and unled) on a broad range of domestic and offshore private client and commercial disputes concerning (by way of example) breaches of trust, breaches of contract, art and cultural property, contentious probate matters, and infringement of intellectual property rights.
Anneliese brings her prior professional and commercial experience to her legal work. Before transferring to the Bar, Anneliese was an Impressionist and Modern Art Specialist at leading international auction houses, working closely with small businesses and high-net-worth private collectors and their estates. She also holds an MBA and worked in strategy consulting and market research full-time alongside her legal studies, for which she obtained the prestigious Lord Denning Major Scholarship from Lincoln’s Inn.
Well-publicised matters in which she has been involved include the Jersey Heritage Trust’s claim against artist Christopher Levine (for the claimant), Ant and Dec’s successful application for a Norwich Pharmacal order against a respondent art dealer (for the applicants), a trademark dispute arising out of a “Dragon’s Den” invention, and the will validity dispute Leonard v Leonard [2024] EWHC 321(ChD) (as a pupil).
Anneliese is fluent / bilingual in French, conversant in Spanish, and speaks and reads basic German.
Anneliese has worked (led and unled) on a wide range of domestic and off-shore private client trusts and succession-related matters including pleadings, blessing applications, interim applications and trials concerning breaches of trust, removal of executors, and interim grants of probate. Anneliese welcomes instructions in these areas and understands the human element behind many such disputes.
Anneliese is particularly well-placed to advise on matters involving art and cultural property, because she can bring the strength and depth of her expertise in the international art market to her legal work in this area. As a Specialist in Impressionist and Modern Art at leading auction houses, Anneliese researched and catalogued artwork, collaborating with academic experts, moral right-holders, and artist’s foundations on questions of authenticity. She also worked and negotiated directly with buyers and sellers – individuals, estates, dealers, and galleries – to build numerous successful auctions in her field of specialism.
Since becoming a tenant, Anneliese has been involved (both led and unled) in a number of disputes concerning, by way of example: art restoration, art collection management, title to artwork and delivery up claims, auction house sales; and estates comprising artistic property. Among these, she been involved in the well-publicised dispute between the Jersey Heritage Trust and Christopher Levine pertaining to the latter’s holographic portrait of Her Late Majesty the Queen (for the claimants), and Ant and Dec’s application for a third party disclosure order against respondent art dealers (for the applicants).
During pupillage, Anneliese assisted Stephanie Wickenden and Harry Martin on various complex art-related matters.
Since tenancy, Anneliese has advised on, and drafted pleadings and applications for, a range of commercial matters involving construction of, and breach of contract, and claims for misrepresentation. Anneliese welcomes instructions in this area.
Anneliese assisted Thomas Elias and Dan McCourt Fritz KC (during pupillage) in matters concerning construction of, and breach of, contract.
Since tenancy, Anneliese has been involved in a range of matters involving claims of fraud, cutting across contractual misrepresentation, proprietary tracing actions and claims concerning breaches of constructive trust.
Anneliese assisted Dan McCourt Fritz KC (during pupillage) both in research and drafting for matters including claims of breach of contract, unjust enrichment, constructive trusts, and professional negligence.
Anneliese has a growing practice in this area, acting in financial remedy proceedings (including Faraj v Ahmad and IIB Group Holdings WLL [2025] EWCA Civ 468 at first instance, as a pupil) and trust disputes between unmarried former couples. She is well-equipped to act in disputes stemming from relationship breakdown for clients from all walks of life thanks to her combined experience working with high-net-worth clients in both legal and art market settings, and representing parties in disputes of high personal significance (whatever the sums at stake).
Since tenancy, Anneliese acted (unled) in various IPO matters, including for the successful respondents in an appeal to the Appointed Person (BL O/0375/24) concerning an application for invalidity on the grounds of bad faith.
Anneliese is currently acting in a number of high-value, complex trusts matters including claims of breach of fiduciary duties and Public Trustee v Cooper applications in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
Anneliese has advised on and welcomes instructions in property-commercial and property-trusts crossover matters, including TOLATA, common intention constructive trusts, and proprietary estoppel claims.
A number of the matters to which Anneliese contributed during pupillage and since tenancy involve cross-border elements in line with her supervisors’ practices; her work has included drafting advice on possible jurisdictional complications where there had been secondary copyright infringement in several jurisdictions, and in respect of firewall provisions of offshore trust legislation.
Anneliese is currently acting in a number off-shore high-value trusts matters including claims of breach of fiduciary duties and Public Trustee v Cooper applications.
