DIFC Courts Practice - A Year On

Location: Via Zoom

The editors of the DIFC Courts Practice, Rupert Reed QC (Serle Court) and Tom Montagu-Smith QC (XXIV Old Buildings) will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday, 7th July 2021 to discuss developments in DIFC law since the book’s publication in May 2020. Last year, the editors and contributors presented a series of five webinars to discuss specific chapters of the book. The series can be watched here.

This year, Rupert and Tom will be joined by contributors, James Weale (Serle Court), Gregor Hogan (Serle Court), Matthew Watson (XXIV Old Buildings).

The book has recently been reviewed in the CIArb’s International Journal of Mediation, Arbitration and Dispute Management.

The Journal’s review emphasises the importance of the work to arbitration practitioners in view of the supervisory jurisdiction of the DIFC Courts, as well as their role in the recognition and enforcement of international arbitral awards.  It notes the particular experience of both editors, the endorsement of the DIFC Courts and its leading judges, and the ‘stellar cast’ of contributors.

This update session will discuss the following cases:

  • IDBI Bank v. Amira Foods [2019] DIFC CA 014 (6 July 2020) (measure of damages)
  • Lahela v. Lameez [2020] DIFC CA 007 (9 May 2021) (requirement of Conventional service)
