Property in Practice 005: Planning for protest: an essential toolkit for property practitioners

Amy Proferes, Andrew Gurr, and George Vare will present the fourth briefing in our Property in Practice series over breakfast, 'Planning for protest: an essential toolkit for property practitioners' on Thursday, 14th March. 

Protest can affect property in many ways, from encampments to planning objections. This seminar provides an overview of key points arising from recent case law, together with practical advice on common pitfalls and how to avoid them. The panel will focus on the judgments in Wolverhampton City Council v London Gypsies and TravellersDyer v Webb, and Cuciurean v Secretary of State for Transport, High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd, and discuss topics including:

  • Human rights vs property rights
  • Injunctions against persons unknown and ‘newcomers’
  • The test for injunctions interfering with human rights
  • Best practice for legal representatives 
  • Costs implications
  • Contempt
