International Trusts and Commercial Litigation Conference – New York

Serle Court hosted a very successful International Trusts and Commercial Litigation conference at The Peninsula New York Hotel on 14 November 2016.

Twenty two Serle Court members spoke during the day and they were joined by fifteen guest speakers from law firms based in the UK, US, Channel Islands, Cayman Islands, BVI and Bermuda, plus a guest speaker from litigation funders Therium who sponsored the event. The conference was attended by 110 senior lawyers from the UK and overseas and was followed by a drinks reception at Salon de Ning, the Hotel’s rooftop terrace, giving panoramic views of the New York skyline.

The conference covered a number of topical issues: Tracing and finding assets: law and practice; Freezing Injunctions: Around the World in 30 Minutes; Private international law in the onshore and offshore worlds; 3 key cases of 2015/2016; Litigation funding and offshore disputes; and Challenging Firewalls. In addition there were breakout sessions on a number of different subjects including: Investment structures: holding directors/partners to account; Removal and replacement of trustees, PTCs and charitable status; Cross-border Insolvency and Assistance; Trustees: How limited is their liability?; International Company Law; and The Life-Cycle of an Anti-Suit Injunction.
